Image Management

tip

Available only when Hybrid Cloud is enabled in FCP-Suite.

Image management covers creating, storing, and upgrading operating system images and their versions to ensure fast and consistent deployment and maintenance of compute environments.

Basic concepts

  • Base image: OS images provided by the FCP platform, tested and validated.
  • Custom image: Customized OS images created by users based on a base image for specific requirements.

Manage images

Create an image

In Cluster Management or Desktop Management, you can create images from manual pay-as-you-go nodes or prepaid nodes.

Note:

  • You can create an image only when no jobs are running on the instance.
  • If software inside the image is updated, recreate the image so that the updated image is used the next time the cluster starts.

Release an image

Users can release only custom images. Base images cannot be released.

Note:

  • Do not release the node used for image creation before the image creation completes.
  • We recommend using manual nodes to create images. Autoscaled nodes might be reclaimed before image creation completes, causing the creation to fail.

Image upgrade

Overview:

Fastone platform versions map one-to-one to image versions. After the platform is upgraded, older base component versions in images might become incompatible with the new platform version.

After upgrading the platform, you can upgrade old-version images from Image Management.

An upgrade typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. During upgrade, the platform automatically starts a cloud node using the image, upgrades base components on that node, and then generates a new image based on it in Image Management. After the process completes, the node is released automatically. The node started during upgrade is billed normally.

Billing:

The node started during image upgrade is billed normally (compute + system disk). You can see its record and status in Host Management. The node type is dynamic.

Notes:

  • The dynamic node started for image upgrade cannot be operated; all operation buttons are hidden.
  • The node started for image upgrade is also subject to budget limits, user configuration, and platform quotas.
